<p>Als <b>pyroklastische Fallablagerungen</b> werden in der <a href="Vulkanologie" title="Vulkanologie">Vulkanologie</a> <a href="Pyroklastisches_Sediment" title="Pyroklastisches Sediment">pyroklastische Ablagerungen</a> bezeichnet, die bei einem <a href="Ejektion" title="Ejektion">explosiven Vulkanausbruch</a> auf einem der beiden folgenden Wege aus <a href="Pyroklast" title="Pyroklast">Pyroklasten</a> entstehen:

</p>

<ul><li>direkter <a href="Ballistik" title="Ballistik">ballistischer</a> Auswurf oder</li>

<li>ausgeworfene Pyroklasten werden zunächst durch die <a href="Turbulente_Str%C3%B6mung" title="Turbulente Strömung">Turbulenz</a> in der <a href="Eruptionss%C3%A4ule" title="Eruptionssäule">Eruptionswolke</a> in Schwebe gehalten; nach mehr oder weniger weiter Verdriftung durch den Wind regnen oder waschen sie durch atmosphärische Prozesse (Regen) oder die <a href="Gravitation" title="Gravitation">Schwerkraft</a> auf den Boden aus.</li></ul>

<p>Anders als pyroklastische Fallablagerungen entstehen <a href="Pyroklastische_Flie%C3%9Fablagerung" title="Pyroklastische Fließablagerung">pyroklastische Fließablagerungen</a> aus <a href="Pyroklastischer_Dichtestrom" title="Pyroklastischer Dichtestrom">pyroklastischen Dichteströmen</a>.

</p>

<div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Entstehung">Entstehung</h2></div>

<p>Pyroklastische Fallablagerungen entstehen hauptsächlich aus primären, relativ stabilen <a href="Plinianische_Eruption" title="Plinianische Eruption">plinianischen Eruptionswolken</a>. Aber auch aus Konvektionswolken („Phönix-Wolken“), die sich sekundär aus pyroklastischen Dichteströmen bilden, können Pyroklasten ausregnen. Da diese sekundären Konvektionswolken meist nur feineres Material enthalten, sind auch diese pyroklastischen Fallablagerungen immer relativ feinkörnig. Ein typisches Kennzeichen dieser aus sekundären Konvektionswolken gebildeten Fallablagerungen ist die <a href="Wechsellagerung" title="Wechsellagerung">Wechsellagerung</a> und Verzahnung mit pyroklastischen Fließablagerungen.

</p><p>Pyroklastische Fallablagerungen sind über das gesamte Gebiet der Ablagerungen eines Ausbruchs betrachtet nach der <a href="Korngr%C3%B6%C3%9Fe" title="Korngröße">Größe der Partikel</a> sortiert. Die größten Komponenten fallen im Allgemeinen nahe dem Eruptionsort aus. Grobe Aschenpartikel können bereits viele Kilometer transportiert werden. Feine Aschepartikel können in höhere Bereiche der Atmosphäre geschleudert werden und die Erde für Monate und Jahre umkreisen. Feinste Aschenpartikel bilden häufig <a href="Keimbildung#Kondensationskeime" title="Keimbildung">Kondensationskerne</a> für die <a href="Aerosol" title="Aerosol">Aerosole</a>, kleine Wassertröpfchen, in denen sich <a href="Vulkanisches_Gas" title="Vulkanisches Gas">vulkanisches Gas</a> gelöst hat.

</p><p>In der unmittelbaren Umgebung von Vulkanen sind pyroklastische Fallablagerungen jedoch im Profil und im Verhältnis zu anderen klastischen Ablagerungen fast immer schlecht(er) sortiert, da die hohe Turbulenz innerhalb der Eruptionswolke das Ausregnen unterschiedlich großer Pyroklasten erlaubt. Größere Komponenten können dadurch viel früher ausregnen als von der Auswurfgeschwindigkeit, der Höhe des Auswurfs und der Größe der Komponente zu erwarten wäre. Das gilt auch umgekehrt; die Turbulenz kann verhindern, dass sie „normal“ ausregnen und sie werden daher weiter weg vom Eruptionsort transportiert, als nach Auswurfgeschwindigkeit, der Höhe des Auswurfs und der Größe der Komponente nur durch Schwerkraft möglich wäre. Dazu kommt noch die Verdriftung durch den Wind, der mit zunehmender Höhe der Eruptionswolke in der Regel an Geschwindigkeit zunimmt. Windverdriftete pyroklastische Fallablagerungen sind daher in aller Regel relativ gut sortiert, da in größerer Entfernung von der Eruption die Turbulenz abnimmt und diese bei der Ablagerung keine große Rolle mehr spielt. Die Sortierung durch den Wind bzw. die Windgeschwindigkeit überwiegt. Allerdings können nur feinere Partikel durch den Wind verdriftet werden und es kommt nur noch zur Ablagerung von <a href="Tuff" title="Tuff">Aschen-Tuff</a>. Windverdriftete pyroklastische Fallablagerungen können Hunderte, u. U. sogar Tausende von Kilometern vom Eruptionsort abgelagert werden. Dabei werden die Pyroklasten häufig mit anderen Sedimentpartikeln gemischt und es kommt zur Ablagerungen von <a href="Tuffit" title="Tuffit">Tuffiten</a>.

</p><p>Pyroklastische Fallablagerungen sind fast immer Lockersedimente, die auch als <a href="Tephra" class="mw-redirect" title="Tephra">Tephra</a> bezeichnet werden. Durch den ballistischen, turbulenten oder <a href="%C3%84olischer_Transport" title="Äolischer Transport">äolischen</a> Transport werden die Pyroklasten in der Regel soweit abgekühlt, dass sie bei der Ablagerung bereits fest sind; Schmelzen (oder gar Aufschmelzen) von Komponenten oder <a href="Verformung" title="Verformung">Verformung</a> noch <a href="Plastizit%C3%A4t_(Physik)" title="Plastizität (Physik)">plastischer</a> Komponenten kommt daher sehr untergeordnet vor. Lediglich im Übergangsbereich zur <a href="Effusion_(Vulkanismus)" title="Effusion (Vulkanismus)">effusiven Tätigkeit eines Vulkans</a> etwa bei der Lava-Wurftätigkeit kann bei <a href="Basisches_Gestein" title="Basisches Gestein">basischen</a> Schmelzen z. B. <a href="Fladenlava" class="mw-redirect" title="Fladenlava">Fladenlava</a> ausgeworfen werden, die beim Auftreffen auf den Boden deformiert wird oder zusammenbacken kann (<a href="Schwei%C3%9Fschlacke" title="Schweißschlacke">Schweißschlacken</a>).

<p>Diese Einteilung wird aber nicht nur auf die pyroklastischen Fall-, sondern auch auf die pyroklastischen Fließablagerungen angewendet. Diese Ablagerungen können zwar ebenfalls <a href="Lockersediment" class="mw-redirect" title="Lockersediment">Lockersedimente</a> bilden, sind jedoch in der Regel so heiß, dass die transportierten und abgelagerten Pyroklasten erneut aufgeschmolzen und miteinander verbacken werden (Schmelztuffe oder <a href="Ignimbrit" title="Ignimbrit">Ignimbrite</a>).

</p>

<div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Besondere_Formen">Besondere Formen</h2></div>

<p>Große Vulkaneruptionen können durch den schnellen Aufstieg von feuchter Luft in große Höhen und das weitere „Ansaugen“ feuchter Luftmassen heftige <a href="Gewitter" title="Gewitter">Gewitter</a> und <a href="Niederschlag" title="Niederschlag">Niederschläge</a> auslösen. Die feinen Aschenpartikel fungieren bei der Bildung von <a href="Tropfen" title="Tropfen">Tropfen</a> als Kondensationskerne.

</p><p>Auch ein zufälliges Aufeinandertreffen eines tropischen (Wirbel-)Sturmes oder eines Tiefdruckgebietes mit einer Eruptionswolke kann starke Niederschläge in der näheren Umgebung der Eruptionswolke zur Folge haben. Diese Niederschläge können große Menge an feinem pyroklastischen Material auswaschen und den <a href="Schlamm" title="Schlamm">Schlamm</a>regen (<i>mud rain</i>) verursachen.
